eBay Picture Size
Resize listing photos to eBay's recommended size and check each one against eBay's minimum, file size and photo count.
This ebay picture size tool resizes a batch of product photos to the sizes eBay publishes for listings. Its default, “Square, 1600 × 1600 px”, is our own starting setting, not an eBay rule; eBay says about 1600 × 1600 px is recommended. You can also choose a 16:9 size, a longest-side size, or a custom size.
The tool runs in your browser, so photos are processed inside the page and are never uploaded. It is free and needs no sign-up. Each photo shows its original size, output size and file size, so you can check the result before you download it. Each result is checked against the eBay numbers on this page and flagged when a photo is below the minimum or over the file limit.

How to use the eBay Picture Size tool
- Click “Choose photos” or drop files onto the box. You can add up to 100 photos per batch. To try the tool first, click “Try a sample photo”.
- Open the “Output size” menu and pick “Square, 1600 × 1600 px” (our default), “16:9, 1600 × 900 px” or “Keep the shape, longest side 1600 px”. For other dimensions, choose “Custom size…” and enter “Width (px)” and “Height (px)”.
- Under “How the photo fits the frame”, choose “Keep the whole photo (add background around it)” to add bars, or “Fill the frame (cut off the overflow)” to fill the frame.
- If you chose the fill option, set “Crop focus” to Centre, Top, Bottom, Left or Right.
- Set “Background colour” if you want something other than the default #ffffff in the bars.
- Tick “Never enlarge small photos” if you do not want small photos stretched.
- Set “Keep each file under” in KB or MB if you need a file size limit.
- Read each card. It shows “Original”, “Output size” and “File” sizes, plus any notes or checks.
- Click “Download” on a card, or “Download ZIP (first 10)” when two or more photos are ready.
The tool recalculates every photo when an option changes, so you can adjust settings before you download. “Clear all” empties the list. To name files, use a pattern with {name}, {n}, {lot}, {w} and {h}, where {w} and {h} are the output size.
What is the ebay picture size limit for listing photos?
The minimum eBay publishes is at least 500 px on the longest side, and its listing help page gives 500 × 500 px as the minimum resolution. Those numbers were read on 16 October 2026, so check the help page for any later changes. eBay’s recommended size is about 1600 × 1600 px, with a largest file of 12 MB per photo and up to 24 photos per listing.
The same page lists 1:1 or 16:9 as the shapes that look best. It names JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, WEBP, HEIC and AVIF as file types.
What does eBay say about borders, text and watermarks?
eBay’s picture policy page says photos must not have borders added to them, added text, artwork or marketing material, or watermarks of any kind, including ownership marks. Read that policy yourself, because it is the full rule. The tool does not decide whether a photo meets the policy. The padding option fills a square with background around the photo, and we do not say whether that counts as a border, so check the policy page before you list.
How does the tool fit a photo into a square or 16:9 frame?
“Keep the whole photo (add background around it)” scales the photo to fit inside the frame and fills the rest with bars in the “Background colour”. For example, a 4,000 × 3,000 px photo in a 1,600 × 1,600 px frame is drawn at 1,600 × 1,200 px, with 200 px bars above and below. A 3,000 × 4,000 px photo in a 1,600 × 900 px frame is drawn at 675 × 900 px, with 463 px bars left and right.
“Fill the frame (cut off the overflow)” scales the photo to cover the frame and cuts off the extra. “Crop focus” sets which part stays. Transparent areas take the background colour, so the output never has transparency.
When does an enlarged photo lose quality?
When a photo has to grow to reach the output size, its card says by how many percent. An enlarged photo has no extra detail, so it can look softer than the original. “Never enlarge small photos” stops this by keeping small photos at their own size.
How does “Keep each file under” work?
For JPEG or WebP files, the tool lowers the quality until the file fits. If quality alone is not enough, it shrinks the pixels in steps. PNG files cannot be shrunk this way, so the limit is not applied to PNG and the tool says so.
Can the tool clean up a white or grey background?
“Whiten a greyish background (white point)” is a slider from 200 to 255, where 255 is Off. Every colour value at or above the number you choose becomes 255, so a light grey backdrop becomes pure white. It also brightens the whole photo slightly. It does not remove or replace a coloured background, shadows or clutter.
“Trim white margins and fit the product to [85] %” finds the product as the pixels that are not white, crops the empty margin, and centres the product at the percentage you set. It works only on a white or nearly white backdrop. On a photo with no white margin, it finds nothing to trim and says so.

Frequently asked questions
Is 1600 × 1600 px an eBay rule?
No. “Square, 1600 × 1600 px” is our default setting. eBay says about 1600 × 1600 px is recommended, and its minimum is 500 px on the longest side.
Are my photos uploaded when I use the tool?
No. Photos are read and processed inside your browser and are never uploaded. The tool is free and needs no sign-up.
Does the tool remove or replace a background?
No. It does not remove or replace backgrounds. The “Whiten a greyish background (white point)” option only turns light greys and near-white values into pure white.
Why won’t my HEIC photo open?
HEIC photos from an iPhone may not open outside Safari. If yours does not, export it as JPEG first, then add it to the tool.
Does a saved photo keep its camera and location data?
No. A saved photo is written as a new file without the original’s camera, date and location (EXIF) data.
How many photos can I download at once?
You can add up to 100 photos per batch. “Download ZIP (first 10)” holds the first 10 results. Whole-batch ZIPs are a planned Pro feature, and nothing paid exists yet.
How many photos can an eBay listing have?
eBay’s listing help page says up to 24 photos. The tool flags a batch of more than 24 photos.
