Pick the Etsy banner, icon or profile photo size and crop your image to it, choosing which part to keep.
How to use the Etsy Banner Size Tool
- Open the “Output size” menu and choose the graphic you need, such as “Big shop banner, 1600 × 400 px”. This is the tool’s default: 1600 × 400 px is the size Etsy recommends for a big shop banner, and Etsy’s minimum is 1200 × 300 px.
- Select “Choose photos” or drop files onto the box. You can add up to 100 photos per batch. To try the tool first, select “Try a sample photo”.
- Look at “How the photo fits the frame”. “Fill the frame (cut off the overflow)” is the default. Choose “Keep the whole photo (add background around it)” if you do not want anything cut off.
- If you chose the fill option, pick a “Crop focus”: Centre, Top, Bottom, Left or Right.
- For a size that is not in the menu, choose “Custom size…” and enter “Width (px)” and “Height (px)”.
- Choose a file type; JPEG is the default. Optionally set “Keep each file under” in KB or MB. PNG files cannot be shrunk this way, so the limit is not applied to PNG.
- Check each card for its “Original”, “Output size” and “File” sizes and any notes.
- Select “Download” on a card, or “Download ZIP (first 10)” when two or more photos are ready. “Clear all” empties the list.
What is the etsy banner size on Etsy?
Etsy publishes several banner sizes. The big shop banner is recommended at 1600 × 400 px, with a minimum of 1200 × 300 px, and the mini shop banner is recommended at 1600 × 213 px, with a minimum of 1200 × 160 px. The tool’s menu lists the same sizes, and the default, 1600 × 400 px, is our choice of the recommended big banner size.
Etsy’s table also lists a carousel banner at 1200 × 300 px (recommended), which is only for sellers subscribed to Etsy Plus. The order receipt banner has a minimum of 760 × 100 px, and the team logo is recommended at 170 × 100 px. The shop icon is recommended at 500 × 500 px and the profile photo at 400 × 400 px.
The numbers above come from a saved copy of Etsy’s help page dated 5 January 2026. Etsy’s live page returned an HTTP 403 error to automated reads on 16 October 2026, so the numbers could not be checked against it that day. The page shows Etsy’s numbers for banners only. Listing photo checks do not apply to banners.
How does the tool fit a wide banner onto a photo?
The tool’s default fit, “Fill the frame (cut off the overflow)”, scales the photo so it covers the whole frame and cuts away the parts that stick out. A banner is wide and short, so a normal photo loses a lot of its height. “Crop focus” decides which part is kept.
Here is how the tool calculates a few cases. A 4,000 × 3,000 px photo in a 1,600 × 400 px frame with the fill option and Centre focus keeps a 4,000 × 1,000 px area starting at x 0, y 1,000, then scales it to 1,600 × 400 px. With Top focus, the same area starts at x 0, y 0. A 3,000 × 2,000 px photo in a 500 × 500 px frame with Centre focus keeps a 2,000 × 2,000 px area starting at x 500, y 0, then scales it to 500 × 500 px.
With “Keep the whole photo (add background around it)”, the full photo is kept and empty space is added around it. Transparent areas are filled with the chosen background colour, so the output never has transparency. The tool does not remove or replace backgrounds.
When a photo has to be enlarged to reach the output size, the card says by how many percent. An enlarged photo has no extra detail, so pick a photo with enough pixels for the size you need.

Frequently asked questions
Which banner size should I choose?
The menu’s default is “Big shop banner, 1600 × 400 px”. Choose “Mini shop banner, 1600 × 213 px” for the mini banner. “Carousel banner (Etsy Plus), 1200 × 300 px” is only for sellers subscribed to Etsy Plus.
Does the tool upload my photos?
No. Photos are read and processed inside your browser, and they are never uploaded.
Do I need to sign up?
No. The tool is free and needs no sign-up. You can select “Try a sample photo” to test it without a file.
Why does my photo look cut off?
The default fill option cuts away the overflow from a wide banner. Choose “Keep the whole photo (add background around it)” to keep everything, or change “Crop focus” to keep a different part.
Can I make a profile picture or shop icon with this tool?
Yes. The “Output size” menu includes “Profile photo, 400 × 400 px” and “Shop icon, 500 × 500 px”. Etsy’s table lists these as recommended sizes.
Does the saved file keep my location data?
No. Saving through the tool writes a new file without the original’s camera, date and location (EXIF) data.
What is the minimum size for a big shop banner?
