The mercari photo size tool resizes your listing photos in your browser, so you can prepare a batch for Mercari or another online marketplace. Mercari’s listing help page does not state a pixel size, so the sizes in this tool are our own choices: a square 1200 × 1200 px default and a 1600 px longest side option. You can add up to 100 photos per batch and check the output size on each card before you download. The tool is free and needs no sign-up. Photos are read and processed inside the page and are never uploaded. Mercari allows up to 12 photos per listing, and the tool flags a batch with more than 12.

How to use the Mercari Photo Size Tool

  1. Click “Choose photos” or drop files onto the box. You can add up to 100 photos per batch. To try the tool first, click “Try a sample photo” instead.
  2. Open the “Output size” menu. Pick “Square, 1200 × 1200 px (our default)” or “Keep the shape, longest side 1600 px”. The square is our default, not a Mercari requirement. To enter your own numbers, choose “Custom size…” and fill in Width (px) and Height (px).
  3. Set “How the photo fits the frame”. Choose “Keep the whole photo (add background around it)” to show the full picture, or “Fill the frame (cut off the overflow)” to cover the frame.
  4. If you chose the fill option, set “Crop focus” to Centre, Top, Bottom, Left or Right.
  5. Turn on “Never enlarge small photos” if you do not want small originals stretched.
  6. Choose a file type. JPEG is the default, and PNG and WebP are also offered.
  7. To set a file size limit, enter a number in “Keep each file under” and choose KB or MB.
  8. Enter a file name pattern using {name}, {n}, {lot}, {w} or {h}.
  9. Check each card for the “Original”, “Output size” and “File” sizes and any notes. Click “Download” on a card, or “Download ZIP (first 10)” when two or more photos are ready.

The tool recalculates every photo whenever an option changes, so you can adjust settings and check the results before downloading. “Clear all” empties the list.

What pixel size should a Mercari photo be?

Mercari’s listing help page does not state a pixel size, so no Mercari number is available for this tool to use. The 1200 × 1200 px square and the 1600 px longest side are our own options, and the page makes no claim about either one.

How does the tool fit a photo into a frame?

“Keep the whole photo (add background around it)” scales the photo to fit inside the frame and adds bars where there is space. A 4,032 × 3,024 photo in a 1,200 × 1,200 frame is drawn at 1,200 × 900 px, with 150 px bars above and below.

“Fill the frame (cut off the overflow)” covers the whole frame and trims the edges. A 3,024 × 4,032 photo filled with “Centre” keeps a 3,024 × 3,024 px area starting at x 0, y 504, then scales it to 1,200 × 1,200 px.

Does enlarging a small photo make it sharper?

No. Enlarging adds pixels but no extra detail. When a photo is enlarged to reach the output size, its card shows the increase in percent. “Never enlarge small photos” keeps small originals at their original size.

Does the tool remove data from my photos?

Saving through the tool writes a new file without the original’s camera, date and location (EXIF) data. Photos with an EXIF rotation are drawn the right way up. HEIC photos from an iPhone may not open outside Safari; if yours does not, export it as JPEG first.

How does “Keep each file under” work?

It lowers the JPEG or WebP quality until the file fits. If quality alone is not enough, it shrinks the pixels in steps. PNG files cannot be shrunk this way, so the limit is not applied to PNG, and the tool says so.

Why do photo backgrounds and colours matter?

Mercari’s page recommends plain backgrounds so nothing distracts, and natural light to show the true colour. This tool does not remove or replace backgrounds and does not edit colours, so the photo you start with matters. Transparent areas are filled with your chosen background colour.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Mercari photo size tool free?

Yes. It runs in your browser, is free and needs no sign-up. Photos are read and processed inside the page and are never uploaded.

How many photos can I add to one Mercari listing?

Mercari’s Creating a Listing page says up to 12 photos per listing (read 16 October 2026). The tool accepts up to 100 photos per batch and flags a batch with more than 12 photos.

What size should a mercari picture size be?

Mercari does not state a pixel size on its listing help page. The tool offers “Square, 1200 × 1200 px (our default)” and “Keep the shape, longest side 1600 px”, which are our own choices, not Mercari rules.

Why does a card say my photo was enlarged?

The photo was drawn larger than the original to reach the output size. An enlarged photo has no extra detail, so the card shows the increase in percent.

Can I enter my own size?

Yes. Choose “Custom size…” from the “Output size” menu and enter Width (px) and Height (px). Use numbers from the marketplace’s own help page if you have one.

Does the tool change my background?

No. The tool does not remove or replace backgrounds. Transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose, so the output never has transparency.
